The Story Behind Mee Spa
Meet Katrina Vaz — Founder & Managing Director of Mee Spa Wellness & Beauty
Mee Spa Wellness & Beauty has operated since 2012 and was founded by Managing Director Katrina Vaz, whose career in the Beauty, Spa, and Wellness industry began in 1993.
Katrina's career has spanned more than three decades and has taken her from Sydney, Australia, to London, England, where she gained valuable international experience overseeing and working within leading day spas. Her career also took her onto international cruise ships, including Carnival Cruise Lines, based in America, and the renowned luxury liner Queen Elizabeth II (QE2).
Returning to Australia after her international career, Katrina was appointed Day Spa Manager and assisted with the opening and operation of a brand-new day spa — The Sensory Day Spa, a Hilton-owned day spa within a LivingWell Health Club.
Katrina's passion for wellness then led her to the pristine NSW North Coast, where she managed Essential Elements Day Spa at Angourie Rainforest Resort. As part of this role, Katrina worked closely with groups of resort guests who were visiting for respite.
It was through providing wellness treatments and creating unique experiences for people living with disabilities that the idea for Mee Spa first began to take shape.
From a tiny seed to Mee Spa
The idea started as a tiny seed, but Katrina wanted to understand more. She craved further knowledge and, importantly, hands-on experience within the disability industry.
This led her to secure a Support Carer role at Nulsen Haven, where she gained first-hand experience of the complexities and rewards of supporting people with disabilities.
During this time, Katrina witnessed the profound effect that the simple act of touch could have through relaxing and nurturing massage. She saw how personalised treatments could assist residents with anxiety and depression, support skin integrity and increase circulation for people who were physically unable to exercise or move regularly.
The tiny seed continued to grow, and Mee Spa Wellness & Beauty was born.
The Mee Spa Vision
Now based in Perth, Mee Spa has grown into a wonderful team of professional therapists who share Katrina's vision and philosophy — that wellness, care and the power of therapeutic touch can create meaningful experiences for everyone.
Today, Mee Spa supports people living with a range of disabilities and complex support needs, including high-care needs, intellectual disabilities, Autism and acquired brain injuries. Every treatment is thoughtfully personalised to the individual, taking into consideration their unique needs, abilities and comfort, and creating an opportunity to experience relaxation, nurturing touch and wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment- their home.
What began as a tiny seed has grown into something I am deeply proud of. Mee Spa is about more than a treatment. It's about connection, dignity, care and the belief that everyone deserves to experience the benefits of wellness.
